BUILDING a 3G MNO in SE Asia

MCONZULT have from 2004 to exit late 2008, (when the company was taken over by an investor) built up a pure 3G operator in the Cambodian market from scratch. CADCOMMS, www.qbmore.com. This project had in this entrepreneurial period, high international attention as an innovative and brave 3G approach in a competitive emerging market, and had under the initial management team status as a “model 3G project” for Ericsson Thailand as the strategic turnkey partner

Main undertakings and achievements: 

  • Established the Business from scratch.
  • Made Market assessment and full Business Plan elaboration.
  • Elaborated the License Application to the regulator.
  • Secured internal and external financing and structured the partnership/company.
  • Conducted a full competitive procurement process, of international standard, for the Network and billing supply finally entering into turnkey contracts with Ericsson, Thailand and Redknee, Canada for the converged billing system.
  • Negotiated with all vendors, suppliers, marketing agencies, government bodies etc.
  • Undertaken all local permitting.
  • Established and ramped up the Organization.
  • NETWORK: Implemented at that point in time the latest commercially available 3.5G (HSDPA) network from Ericsson. The implementation included national interconnect, two international roaming HUBs, international VoIP and international SMS.

VAS: Implemented a very feature rich VAS portfolio on Ericsson and Trivnet platforms including: TV streaming (5 channels), Ring back tone, Video Ring back tone, content download, peer to peer transfer, Automatic Device Configuration and full international internet reach and peering. Developed an advanced and comprehensive Mobile Portal primarily with in-house competence on the Ericsson DRUTT platform.

CONTENT: In addition to numerous local content providers, the following international content relationships where established and integrated in the Mobile Portal: CNBC (Mobile TV, VoD), CNN (Mobile TV, VoD), MTV and Nickelodeon (VoD, Screensaver, Wallpaper), ESPN and STAR Sports (VoD, SMS alerts, Ringtone, Game, Sport event content), Gameloft (Mobile game), Sony BMG (International music), ZED (Mobile game, International music, wallpaper) and Inlogic Software (Mobile games), and local content providers.

COMVERGED BILLING: A full convergent billing system was implemented enabling prepaid and postpaid packages. Flat rate charging for voice and data established.

Jay Mart is the largest independent handset distributor in Thailand and the skilled staff gives 3G customers advanced support. The voice and SMS
service is available nationwide through its national roaming partner AIS. The 3G service coverage is currently limited to greater Bangkok.

BRAND: Built a brand image in record time. The “qb” brand developed to the third most recognized brand in all industries in Phnom Penh only 6 months after launch solely beaten by ANZ & Mobitel.

Launched commercial services with a launch event as the biggest concert in Phnom Penh ever.

Status end 2008 (8 months after launch): app 1200 distributors, 100k subscribers, 300 employees and nationwide network coverage (major cities/roads).



BUILDING a 3G MVNO in Thailand

MCONZULT have from mid 2009 built up a 3G Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in the competitive Thai market from scratch.

Main undertakings and achievements: 

  • Established the Business from scratch.
  • Made Market assessment and full Business Plan elaboration.
  • Elaborated the License Application to the regulator.
  • Secured internal and external financing for building up the Business.
  • Negotiated with all partners, vendors, suppliers, marketing agencies, government bodies etc.
  • Established and ramped up the Organization providing and recruiting a full scale management team and all required key experts.
  • Launched the Business with commercial services.
  • Managed and Operated the Business.

The MVNO is leasing the network services on a wholesale basis from the TOT Public Company which is a state enterprise telecom operator and the only provider of 3G network services in Thailand.

The MVNO is operating its 3G mobile services under the brand name MOJO3G.

MOJO3G commercially launched its service in March 2010 with its outsourced call centre and more than 200 distribution outlets through our strategic partner Jay Mart. Jay Mart is the largest independent handset distributor in Thailand and the skilled staff gives 3G customers advanced support. The voice and SMS service is available nationwide through its national roaming partner AIS. The 3G service coverage is currently limited to greater Bangkok.

MOJO3G aims in the short and medium term to establish itself as an operator with a healthy cash flow providing advanced services based on the 3G technology platform.
